ARGUMENT. PART FIRST. If, gazing from this eminence, I wake, With thronging thoughts, the harp of poesy Once more, ere night descend, haply with tones Fainter, and haply with a long farewell; If, looking back upon the lengthened way My feet have trod, since, long ago, I left Those well-known shores, and when mine eyes are filled With tears, I take the pencil in its turn, And shading light the landscape spread below, So smilingly beguile those starting tears; 10 Something, the feelings of the human heart-- Something, the scene itself, and something more-- A wish to gratify one generous mind-- May plead for pardon.
